- Base pay: 7.5 × $22.00 = $165.00
- With 20% night differential: $165.00 × 1.20 = $198.00 gross
- Extra earned from the differential: $33.00
Night Differential Plus Overtime
On a long night shift you can earn both. Overtime is calculated first at 1.5× the base rate, then the night differential applies on top. A 10-hour night shift at $22/hr with a 20% differential, daily 8-hour overtime rule:
- Regular: 8 × $22 = $176
- Overtime: 2 × $22 × 1.5 = $66
- Subtotal: $242
- × 1.20 night differential = $290.40 gross
